Mr. Mau (real name: Dries Bultynck) is one of those guys that have been around for years in the better parts of the techno scene, but has always stayed under the radar of the bigger nights. A reason is perhaps that he has always stayed true to his sound and steered away from adapting himself too much to the hype of the moment. He has release on labels like Labyrinth, Kobalt and Klips, and is scheduled to found his own imprint in 2009. His "Exploration EP" contains three pure breed techno tracks, perfectly showing the range of the man's potential: 'Exploration' (PsyTox favourite) goes deep and dirty with an offbeat kick and über-dark static and strings whirling around. 'Model 505' steps it up a notch with a metal clonk lead and a buildup that has you crying out for your mummy when played on a big sound rig. 'Untitled' was described by Franco Cangelli as a track with a bit of a calmer Jeff Mills feel and that's pretty much on the money: very very dancefloor delicious, ideal to get the punters going mental. Once you let this one nest itself in your brain, it's not ever coming out anymore. And because sound is vital for proper releases, all tracks were mastered by Pieter Dewagter from Equus, which is pretty much the cream of the belgian crop.
